School History
The Leslie County Area Technology Center (LCATC) has a proud history as a cornerstone of career and technical education in the region. According to the Leslie County Schools District Facility Plan, the school was founded in 1970, becoming part of the Kentucky Tech System of Area Technology Centers. From its inception, the LCATC has been dedicated to equipping students with the skills and knowledge needed for success in various career fields.
Over the decades, LCATC has adapted its curriculum to meet the changing needs of the workforce. While the specific programs have evolved, the core mission of preparing students for both a career and further education has remained constant. The center serves students from grades 9 through 12, offering hands-on training that complements their academic studies.
In recent years, the school has gained recognition for its innovative initiatives, such as the "Teaching and Learning Pathway." This program, developed in collaboration with community partners, is a forward-thinking approach to addressing the local teacher shortage by nurturing and "home-growing" new educators from within the community itself. This initiative, along with its core offerings in fields like Carpentry, Computer Science, Health Sciences, and Welding, solidifies the LCATC's role as a vital institution for workforce development in Leslie County.
